Over the course of 4 weeks in Spring 2024, Dove collaborated with Media.Monks to create the Real Beauty Prompt playbook, a practical guide with foundational education on inclusivity and how to use generative AI to reflect real beauty in visual generations of women. It was shortlisted in Cannes 2024 for both Glass and Titanium.

Real Beauty Prompt Playbook

Dove is universally known for its commitment to representing and celebrating beauty in all its diversity. So what if we used this as the code to imagine real beauty? The rise of AI poses one of the greatest threats to real beauty in the last 20 years, meaning representation is more important than ever. While Dove is vowing not to use generative AI in their marketing, that dosen't mean AI is going away anytime soon. So how can Dove apply its stance on inclusivity in an industry where current image generations of women perpetuate bias?

In recognition of the 20th anniversary of Dove's ‘Campaign for Real Beauty', Dove partnered with Media.Monks to create the Real Beauty Prompt Playbook to provide new and professional generative AI users recommendations on how to prompt inclusively. It features easy-to-use tips on how to create images that are representative of real beauty on the most popular generative AI programs, along with a glossary of terms to make prompting more inclusive.

The prompt playbook featured six chapters, with the fourth chapter "Writing Real Beauty Prompts" including specific recommendations and prompt templates for inclusive generations. My role was to be a subject matter  expert in generative AI throughout the the playbook's chapters, research prompt formats that result in consistent inclusive results, validate findings across three major image generation platforms (Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion), lead and mentor creative technologists and AI artists, content development of Chapter 4, ensure the content is understandable to wide audience (from newbies to professionals), and oversee technical accuracy and clarity within the rest of the playbook.

As of writing, The Dove Code project that includes the Real Beauty Prompt Playbook was shortlisted in Cannes 2024 for Glass and Titanium categories. Check out the landing page and download the playbook to learn more.

When you're in the business of digital transformation, there's an extra amount of scrutiny to walk the walk. This demo enables them to do that (and show off a bit, too).

creates an immersive and engaging environment for guests to end on a finale

The DXC Partner Room experience is the last of a 1 hour ambassador-led tour about the company. This experience energizes guests right before they leave for a great last impression.

Use AR to animate instructions right off the page for improved context

AR provides two key features that help users further understand their environment. 1) It puts in augmented content wherever the user holds their phone camera and 2) Provides context in the X, Y, and Z axises instead of just two like traditional mobile applications.

IKEA Assembly is a mobile application that uses augmented reality to place animated instructions into the user's environment.  The little details and context that get lost in a picture can be clarified by the user walking around, moving closer and away from the model, and iconography representing key tools and actions needed.

Merging together the physical and digital for full immersion

In projects that combine the digital and physical components, I like to prototype it in some way to understand how it all comes together and refine from there. Below is the storyboards illustrating how the lighting effects might react to actions on screen and what part of the experience the guest is in. This later led to another animatic with the lighting effects that we showed to the client for feedback and approval.

Cross-team and partner collaboration

Throughout the project, Cole (Creative director) and I led conversations with key partners, particularly CCS (a new AV Integrator partner to 900lbs) and architectural firm, BBK. Part of this included creating spatial designs to understand guest affordances of the space, how the technology and construction will intersect, and overseeing the creation of construction documents accurately reflecting the design and client goals of the space. This shows the iteration and change of concept throughout based on client feedback.
